Raúl Lacilla Crespo is a virtuoso bagpipe player with experience both in classical music and in traditional music from the Iberian Peninsula. For his expertise and skills on this instrument he has received different prizes among them the prestigious Trophée MacCrimmon of the Festival Interceltique de Lorient (France). Raúl also holds a Professional Performance Degree on Recorder from the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona (CMMB), and a Bachelor Degree in orchestral conducting from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMuC). Presently he is pursuing a Master Degree in Musicology at the Universidad de la Rioja (UR).

The reconstruction of medieval wind instruments and their techniques is one of Raúl’s main interests and activities. At the moment he is developing reconstructions of early 13th-century bagpipes (musae) in collaboration with the Obradoiro de Gaitas Seivane, and different kinds of Romanesque panflutes (frestels) with the luthier Gonzalo Pieters. Raúl is a member of the medieval music ensembles Magister Petrus, Razos de Trobar, and Ars memoriae de Salas.
